Low-Complexity Suboptimal ML Detection for OFDM-IM Systems

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with index modulation (OFDM-IM) is a novel multicarrier scheme, which uses ${k}$ out of notation="LaTeX">${n}$ subcarriers as active to transmit data. For detecting the subcarrier activation pattern (SAP) at receiver, maximum likelihood (ML) detection cannot be used because its high computational complexity. Instead, detector selecting most likely used, called largest values ( lv) detector. However, this method degrades performance especially if ratio illegal SAPs high. In letter, suboptimal ML proposed, simple modification lv detector, but very efficient. The proposed has similar compared detection, suitable for flexible implementation OFDM-IM systems.
